Breaking: Rams Are Closing In On Deal To Sign $14.4 Million WR And Return Specialist….
Cooper Kupp, a wide receiver with the Los Angeles Rams, was featured on the Games with Names podcast this week. After talking about adding more games to the NFL schedule with host Julian Edelman, Kupp—who is very enthusiastic about player conditioning—went off on a tangent about it.
Kupp adopts the somewhat controversial position that players must be in good physical shape and ready for training camp in order for the league to grow to include more games, which is inevitable. This will ensure that the best possible product is sent onto the field and that players are long-term prepared.
Kupp begins his tirade by saying, “Players have an obligation to do something in the offseason to prepare themselves to get ready to go.”
“I only wish more guys had arrived prepared to go. I recognize that there are conflicts between the players and the league, that the product must be high-quality, and that the union will undoubtedly constantly push for reduced hours worked. The league will make the case for additional games. Here, there is a middle ground where we must cooperate and determine how to best present our best offering.
“Players have an obligation to be at practice prepared to work. That’s where I believe some of this may occur. where summertime males go bonkers. I don’t mind if you don’t want to prepare for OTAs, but what bothers me are the guys who go for the entire summer without doing anything and then show up for training camp. It is in your best interest as a player to arrive at training camp prepared. You have five weeks from OTAs to training camp. Take your break and then get ready to work. Be prepared to put up your best effort in order to defend both yourself and your comrades.
