Mark Pope has been the head basketball coach at Kentucky for more than a month, but his official contract terms have only recently been disclosed.

The institution disclosed Pope and his coaching staff’s contract information on Tuesday. Pope’s contract, which was previously supposed to be for five years, will last from April 12, 2024 until March 31, 2029.

Pope will make $27.5 million over the length of his contract, which includes a $5 million salary and a $250k rise per season.

Kentucky is a member of the ‘blue blood’ group in college basketball, but it has not advanced beyond the opening weekend since the 2018-19 season. Following the Covid outbreak ahead of the 2020 NCAA Tournament, UK missed the 2021 NCAA Tournament and has exited in the first round in two of the previous three seasons.

So, if Pope makes it to the Sweet Sixteen, he will receive a bonus. He will receive an additional $250,000 for each Sweet Sixteen appearance.
