Five possible destinations for LaDontae Henton, a transfer guard from Providence

Despite having a lackluster first year under head coach Kim English, former Providence Friars guard Garwey Dual is navigating the 2024 NBA draft process with the hopes of being a one-and-done player.

After head coach Ed Cooley left to join Georgetown, Dual recommitted to Providence, but in 18.5 minutes per game, the 6-foot-5 guard averaged just 3.3 points, 1.9 assists, and 1.3 rebounds while shooting 25% from three and 40% from two.

Even then, Dual demonstrated why he was such a highly sought-after recruit out of high school with his incredibly large wingspan (7 feet). At the NBA combine on Saturday, he scored 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, and dished out three assists in a scrimmage.

Dual acknowledged that while he is still fully engrossed in the NBA draft process, he has not given much attention to the transfer portal. But if the NBA doesn’t give him the feedback he needs, he intends to go back to college and try to find a team that will allow him to play point guard.

Over the past week or so, the point guard market has cleared out somewhat, with Vanderbilt signing AJ Hoggard as the most recent lead guard to commit.

Although Dual is a native of Houston, he did play high school ball in Carmel, Indiana. By moving to Butler, he might be able to start in the Big East at point guard.

Guards Posh Alexander (Dayton) and DJ Davis (Washington) left Thad Matta’s team via the portal, and Kolby King of Tulane, who is more of an off-guard than a true point guard, is the lone guard replacement thus far.
