Men’s Basketball Head Coach Kim English Signs Contract Extension

Providence, Rhode Island – Today, April 5, Providence College President Fr. Kenneth Sicard, O.P. and Vice President/Athletics Director Steve Napolillo announced that Kim English, the men’s basketball program’s head coach, has accepted a contract extension to stay in that role for the next six years.

Men’s basketball head coach Kim English expressed her gratitude to Father Sicard and Steve Napolillo for “extending and deepening our connection to each other and the College.” “I have a deep commitment to Friartown as a whole and to our student athletes. This past season, the community, donors, and fans showed us so much support, and it’s one of the many reasons why I think our program can succeed going forward. I’m excited for the thrilling times to come as we prepare to contend for titles.”

English guided the Friars to a 21-14 overall record and a 10-10 record in BIG EAST play during his rookie campaign at Providence. In his debut season at PC, English became the first head coach from the Friars to win 20 games. The Friars qualified for the NIT by winning six quad-one games. Josh Oduro was named All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention, while Junior Devin Carter became just the second Friar in history to win BIG EAST Player of the Year.

“Coach English has done an outstanding job leading our men’s basketball team in his inaugural year,” stated Father Sicard. “Considering the difficulties of the previous campaign, he has demonstrated a natural ability to encourage his men to endure with courage. We value his dedication to our program and hope that he will continue to do so for many years to come.”
