Jay Stansfield is a footballer that departed St Andrew’s with his head held high, despite the awful campaign. The Fulham loanee scored 12 goals this season, making him one of the team’s bright spots.

His excellent play was duly acknowledged on Birmingham City’s end-of-season awards night, where he won all five of the men’s categories.

Birmingham’s relegation makes it all but impossible that they would have been able to re-sign him had they stayed up. It seems doubtful that Marco Silva will be leaving given this and his remarks about giving Stansfield a chance at Fulham, thus Birmingham will need to find a replacement.

They will need a young, ambitious goal scorer to support Lukas Jutkiewicz, and Wolverhampton Wanderers might have just the guy. Jutkiewicz is expected to sign a new contract.

Nathan Fraser should be the focus of Birmingham.

On Wednesday, June 19, at 8:45 p.m., Steve Madeley of The Athletic revealed that Wolves and the teenage striker Leon Chiwome had reached an agreement on a new contract.

He will also remain at Molineux for the upcoming season and compete for a spot on Gary O’Neil’s team thanks to this new contract.

In addition to securing Chiwome’s future, this agreement will enable Nathan Fraser, another academy product, to go out on loan and look for playing time.

The young player has been expected to go for a while, but because of injury concerns at his parent club, no suitable opportunity presented itself.

This is excellent news for Birmingham, as it makes sense to pursue the young player to take Stansfield’s spot.

Although many Birmingham supporters would prefer a goal striker with more experience, Fraser’s accomplishments as a young player are noteworthy, since he scored 22 goals in 63 games.

The other issue, should they decide to go after him, would be potential interest from other parties. Fraser has long-standing admirers at Shrewsbury Town, and he was rumored to be on the verge of joining Salop in January 2024.

This respect may be relevant, but one would think a team the size of Birmingham would have the clout to defeat the Shropshire club in a transfer battle.

Fraser has a natural skill and, at 6 feet 2 inches, he does not have the small stature that many people his age do.
