Done Deal: Maple Leafs Coach Craig Berube Lands With 86.5 Million Mega-Star Forward….
In order to keep Mitch Marner on the team, the Toronto Maple Leafs are getting ready to extend a contract offer, according to NHL source Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Since the season concluded, Marner has been the focus of trade rumors because he has one year remaining on his $65.4 million, six-year contract that he signed in 2019. Marner can block any transfer thanks to his complete no-movement clause, but numerous rumors have indicated that he might be open to being traded to a few other teams.
But as Friedman disclosed on his 32 Thoughts podcast on June 28, Toronto is considering extending Marner’s contract.
Friedman declared, “Aside from the fact that I do believe they’re getting ready to make him an offer, we’ll see,” he would avoid getting close to Mitch Marner.
It’s intriguing that Friedman thinks the Maple Leafs are getting ready to make Marner an offer, as everyone seemed to be expecting Toronto to move the talented winger.
In 69 regular season games with the Maple Leafs the previous year, Marner tallied 26 goals and 59 assists for 85 points. In seven playoff games for Toronto, he added one goal and two assists. In 576 regular season games during his career, he has amassed 639 points with 194 goals and 445 assists.
