reportedly: Detroit Red Wings Complete A Deal Of 206.6 Million To….
Jacob Trouba, the club captain, has been the talk of the New York Rangers this past week. This week, the 30-year-old defenseman’s name has come up in trade talks, and after Friday night’s NHL Entry Draft, things appear to be getting hotter.
According to reports, the Rangers are negotiating a deal to send Jacob Trouba to Detroit.
The New York Post’s Larry Brooks claims that Rangers general manager Chris Drury is negotiating a trade that would send Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings. Being a native of Michigan, Trouba would “presumably” accept the swap. Although his contract contains a 15-team no-move provision, joining the Red Wings would provide him the chance to play for his hometown team.
transferring The Blueshirts would be making a significant move in acquiring Trouba in an effort to free up salary cap space for the forthcoming free-agency season. According to Brooks, if this deal goes through, the Rangers would only be responsible for $2.5 million of Trouba’s $8 million salary:
According to Brooks, the Rangers could keep $2.5 million annually for the final two seasons of Trouba’s $8 million yearly cap charge. “That is equivalent to a 31.25 percent retention rate, which would also be applied to Trouba’s $12 million compensation over the next two seasons. That would free up an extra $5.5 million in space if that ended up being the retention amount in the event that this deal closed.
