Report Sixers Closing Secret Deal To Sign Knicks MVP In A Blockbuster Trade
CBS, Philadelphia, PA Throwback jerseys are a favorite among Philadelphia sports fans, and the 76ers’ iconic black uniforms from the Allen Iverson era and the early 2000s are no exception.
Calls for the Sixers to revive the recognizable uniforms gained traction on social media following the team’s posting of images and videos featuring Tyrese Maxey, the recently re-signed guard, showing off the black threads.
Although the Sixers are seeking to bring back the black jerseys, sources within the organization told CBS News Philadelphia that they will not be worn in the upcoming campaign.
The closest we’ll come to a return to black this season—for all the Philly supporters clamoring to see Maxey, Joel Embiid, and the rest of the team don all-black uniforms—will be when supporters don throwback jerseys at Wells Fargo Center.
Maxey will remain in Philadelphia for a further five years thanks to his $204 million contract deal with the Sixers. Alongside Embiid, who is getting ready to play for Team USA at the Olympics in Paris later this month, the 23-year-old swiftly established himself as a star last season after winning the NBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year Award and the Sportsmanship Award.
Last season, he averaged a career-high 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. He also had three games with 50 or more points.
