Another significant step was taken by the Detroit Lions to mend the team’s relationship with former standout wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Johnson will be inducted into the Pride of the Lions, the Lions’ ring of honor, the team said on Monday.

On September 30, 2024, during their Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks, Johnson will be recognized during halftime.

Johnson played all nine of his professional years with the Lions and is regarded as one of the best wide receivers in NFL history. He was selected for three First Teams All-Pro teams, made six Pro Bowls, and in 2012, with 1,964 receiving yards, he set a record for the most receiving yards in a single season. In terms of catches (731), receiving yards (11,619), and receiving touchdowns (83), he leads the team all-time.

However, immediately after Johnson abruptly retired after the 2015 season, the Lions and Johnson’s relationship worsened. The Hall of Famer was not happy that the Lions made him reimburse $1.6 million of his signing bonus since he did not finish his contract.
