PHILADELPHIA: Following the conclusion of the MLB Draft on Tuesday afternoon, University of Pennsylvania baseball player Cole Zaffiro, a right-hander, signed as an undrafted free agent with the New York Yankees, making him the most recent member of the professional ranks.
In 2024, Zaffiro accepted his position as the star of Penn’s rotation, making the second team All-Ivy, leading the team to the Ivy League Tournament championship for the second time in a row and an NCAA regional berth. During the season, he had the most strikeouts (96) and innings (77.2) of any Ivy League pitcher.
He earned Ivy League Pitcher of the Week awards in back-to-back weeks early in the season after making two consecutive excellent outings against Lafayette and Brown. After striking out of the Bears, Zaffiro threw seven scoreless innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts.
