Mavericks young guard’s season will determine if he’s trade
When the Dallas Mavericks lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals, they were in dire need of adding a third star or scorer to their roster. In order to accomplish this, the team signed and traded for Klay Thompson, a highly skilled 3-point shooter.
Guards Tim Hardaway Jr. and Derrick Jones Jr. were lost, but Dallas signed forward Naji Marshall and added Quentin Grimes.
With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving leading the way, the Mavs already have an abundance of guard skill. They have also recruited guards in free agency, like Grimes. One reserve guard, though, may find himself in a difficult situation come playoff time because he is up for a contract after the 2024–25 campaign ends.
Entering the season in the last year of his contract, Jaden Hardy will become a restricted free agent following the conclusion of the next campaign. Hardy’s cap hit is just little over $2 million, according to Spotrac.
Although Hardy’s contract may not seem high for a bench player, his performance this season will determine whether or not the team views him as a key member in Dallas come trade deadline time. Hardy is in the same situation as Dante Exum, the bench guard, who will also need a new deal after 2025.
Given that the guard only turned 22 on July 5, Hardy and the Mavs are in a difficult situation. Hardy’s stats decreased from his debut year.
