Heartsbreaking: Steelers Legend Found Dead In Sewmming Pool….

Former Steelers linebacker Andy Russell, who won two Super Bowls with the team, passed away on Thursday night at the age of 82, according to a report from Pittsburgh’s Action News 4.

The cause of death is still a mystery. Prior to being selected in the 16th round of the 1963 NFL Draft by the Steelers, Russell played collegiate ball at Missouri.

Following a debut season that saw him record three interceptions, one fumble recovery, and two sacks, Russell missed 1964 and 1965 in order to complete his undergraduate ROTC military obligations.

He played for the squad again for 11 more years, starting in 1966.

As a part of the famed “Steel Curtain” defense, Russell appeared in all 14 NFL games and was selected to seven Pro Bowls throughout his career, including six in a row from 1970 to 1975.

Before he retired in 1976 following the Steelers’ loss to Oakland in the AFC Championship Game, he won Super Bowls IX and X with Pittsburgh. Russell sealed the victory in a 1975 playoff game against the Baltimore Colts by returning a fumble 93 yards for a score.

Ultimately, the Steelers defeated Dallas 21-17 in the Super Bowl that season.

In a 2023 wild-card game against the Ravens, Bengals player Sam Hubbard made the greatest fumble return in NFL postseason history, going 98 yards.

He was inducted into the Steelers Hall of Honor and named to their All-Time Team. Russell is inducted into the Pittsburgh Hall of Fame and played in Pittsburgh for all 12 of his NFL seasons.
