Tragic: Two of Raider’s best players perish in a plane crash.
The organization announced on Sunday night that Jim Otto, the Hall of Fame center dubbed “Mr. Raider” for persevering through a long list of ailments, had passed away. He was eighty-six.
It was not immediately clear what caused the death.
The club called him “The Original Raider” in a statement that was shared on the social media site X. Jim is the epitome of consistency, and his impact on professional football in general and the American Football League in particular cannot be understated. His perseverance and leadership typified the winning Raider squads of the 1960s and 1970s.
After the Raiders relocated to Las Vegas in 2020, Otto continued to be associated with the team. He was in the locker room with a number of former players of the team after the Raiders defeated the Denver Broncos 27-14 in January to close the season.
Las Vegas Raiders’ linebacker Otto was described as a “complete legend & incredible person” by Maxx Crosby on X.
Otto was a mainstay on the Raiders for the following fifteen years, having joined the team during their 1960 AFL season.
