Two children and Steffi Graf’s husband perish in a plane crash accident.
Of course, that is Steffi Graf’s witty reply to a supporter who asked her to marry him during a Wimbledon semifinal.
As she was vying for her seventh championship against Kimiko Date in the 1996 semi-final, a fan yelled, “Steffi, will you marry me?”
The audience erupted in laughter, and Graf, who was ready to serve, smiled broadly as well.
After allowing the throng to calm down, she offered the ideal response: “How much money do you have?”
And that prompted Centre Court to respond even more forcefully.

According to the New York Times, Graf declared, “I think I’ll ask for a divorce now because I lost the game.”
She did succeed in pulling herself together, defeating Date, and went on to win the championship at the All England Club.
Regarding her opponent, she remarked, “She’s played some amazing tennis against me. She enjoys my fast-paced, flat style of playing, and she easily absorbs my power and predicts my next move in advance.
“It’s just not my game, but if we played a little slower, it would be much more difficult for her.”

But having won an incredible 22 singles titles in her storied career, she has bragging rights in their household when it comes to Grand Slams.
This included winning the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open, and Olympic Gold in the same year, as well as the Golden Calendar Grand Slam.
But as Agassi disclosed in his memoirs, it wasn’t love at first sight.
In his memoir Open, he stated, “I’ve had a crush on Steffi since I first saw her doing an interview on French TV.” She exuded effortless beauty and understated grace, leaving me speechless.
He claimed that when he attempted to communicate her during the 1991 French Open, she ignored him.
