Heartbreaking: A minute ago, painful. Rashee Rice, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, died in a car accident.
At the age of 86, Abner Haynes, a standout running back from the American Football League’s early years who still retains certain records with the Kansas City Chiefs, passed away in Dallas on Thursday. There was no explanation provided.
In a condolence message to the Haynes family, Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt referred to the actor as a “man of courage and leadership.”
“Chiefs Hall of Famer Abner Haynes’s passing deeply saddens my family and me,” stated Hunt. “One of the American Football League’s and the Dallas Texans’ early big stars was Abner.”
At North Texas State, which is now the University of North Texas, Haynes played collegiate football. There, he and teammate Leon King became the first African Americans to play on a college football team that was integrated.
