The Cardinals have announced the passing of first baseman Paul Goldschmidt, which is very sad and painful.
The renowned former manager of the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, and California Angels, Whitey Herzog, passed away at the age of 92.
Cardinals spokesperson Brian Bartow said on Tuesday that Herzog’s family had notified the team of his passing.
Herzog attended the Cardinals’ home opener on April 4 at Busch Stadium, though it was unclear if it occurred on Monday night or Tuesday.
Among the 50 most successful managers in Major League Baseball history is Herzog.
The Cardinals won pennants in 1982, 1985, and 1987 under Herzog’s leadership. In 1982, they defeated the Milwaukee Brewers in seven games to win the World Series.
