Tragic: Dodgers star Teoscar Hernández announces the death of his wife, who has two children, in an automobile accident.

Legendary Dodger pitcher Carl Erskine, the last living member of the 1950s “Boys of Summer” team, passed away. His age was ninety-seven.

According to Michele Hockwalt, the marketing and publicity manager at Community Hospital Anderson, Erskine passed away in his birthplace of Anderson, Indiana.

In a statement, Hall of Fame Chair Jane Forbes Clark described Erskine as a “baseball hero” to millions of fans.

Erskine played for the Dodgers from 1948 until 1959, during which time he was a Dodgers lifer. When the squad relocated to Los Angeles in 1957 from Brooklyn, he remained a member. During his tenure with the Dodgers, he also contributed to the team’s five National League pennants, including their 1955 World Series victory.

Over the course of that pennant run, the Dodgers only won one World Series.

Erskine, who was a 1954 All-Star once, finished his career with a 4.00 ERA, 122-78 record, and 981 strikeouts.
