Report-Cardinals Shortstop Key Man among 4 players to receive suspension From….
Players who feel compelled to utilize performance enhancers in an effort to advance in the professional baseball ranks run the danger of harming themselves. The Commissioner’s Office will suspend players who use drugs to increase their prospects of moving up through the minor league ranks and eventually into the major leagues, putting an end to their dreams.
Three minor league players were suspended by Rob Manfred’s office on Friday for using substances that unethically and illegally increase a player’s chances of improving their skills.
Among these players is Kener Perez, a minor league pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals who plays in the Dominican Summer League. Perez’s positive Stanozolol test resulted in a 56-game suspension. Stanozolol was one of the first performance-enhancing drugs used by athletes and is also one of the easiest to detect, even though the use of these drugs has become rather complex over the past 20 years.
