Report-Guardians Closing Secret Deal To Sign Phillies MVP In A Blockbuster Trade

In his third major league start, Tyler Phillips pitched a four-hit shutout to lead the Philadelphia Phillies past the Cleveland Guardians 8-0 on Saturday night. Right-hander Phillips, a lifelong Phillies supporter from South Jersey, was thrilled with his performance.

Phillips remarked, “I’ve never done that before.” “It felt really good.”

This shutout marked the 12th individual shutout of the season and the 21st complete game in the majors.

In a fourth inning that saw seven runs scored, Bryce Harper, Brandon Marsh, and Kyle Schwarber all blasted home runs. In the sixth, Nick Castellanos also hit a home run. To cap off a memorable evening at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies acquired closer Carlos Estévez, which was a major move as well.

Within hours, the Phillies acquired 2023 All-Star Estévez.

Growing up in Lumberton, New Jersey, Phillips was a devoted Phillies fan and was happy with the team’s recent developments.

With his current record of 3-0, Phillips is the first rookie pitcher for the Phillies to toss a shutout since Zach Eflin in 2016. As a stand-in for injured starters Taijuan Walker and Spencer Turnbull in the second half of the season, Phillips has won all three of his major league outings, giving the Phillies an unexpected lift.

Phillips saw games in the old Veteran Stadium as a child and, more recently, at the new ballpark on Saturday, where he shut out the AL Central leaders.

After he retired Angel Martinez on a flyball to left, Phillips’ effort was greeted with thunderous applause from the 44,356 spectators.
