Done Deal: Cardinals Lands With Another outfielder Worth 250.6 Million For….
With the addition of White Sox starting pitcher Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham, the St. Louis Cardinals improved their starting rotation and even added a familiar face to their outfield. Los Angeles Dodgers were one of the three teams involved in the transaction that sent utilityman Tommy Edman to St. Louis and Miguel Vargas, along with infield prospects Alexander Albertus and Jeral Perez, to the Dodgers.
After pitching in South Korea the previous season, Erick Fedde restocked his arsenal, and the moves have paid off. Of all the pitchers and position players for the Chicago White Sox, Fedde had the greatest bWAR (4.6). Fedde has also pitched 121.2 innings with an ERA of 3.11, an ERA+ of 133, and 108 strikeouts. Fedde was being considered by the Cardinals, who were in need of a starting pitcher due to the White Sox’s impending collapse into one of the worst seasons in MLB history.
Tommy Pham is making a comeback to St. Louis, where he made his Cardinals debut in 2014. His greatest season came in 2017, when he batted.306/.411/.520, finished 11th in the National League MVP voting, and amassed 6.2 bWAR. 2018 saw the Cardinals deal Génesis to Tampa Bay in exchange for Pham.
