Hearbreaking News: The star player for the New York Yankees has been suspended from all sports due to…
Manager Aaron Boone once again targeted Gleyber Torres, the second baseman for the New York Yankees, on Friday night, which resulted in a well-earned benching. In the bottom of the third inning, Torres smashed a 110.7 MPH line drive off the left-field wall, drawing Boone’s ire. However, after he admired the shot and lollygagged, thinking it was a home run, Torres was thrown out at home plate on an Anthony Volpe double. After thinking about it for a while, Boone decided to break his own personal tradition and bench Torres an inning later. The 27-year-old protested to no avail and issued an apology.
According to ESPN, Torres stated, “I have to get better.” And I sincerely apologize for [what I did] tonight, especially to my teammates and the fans. I am a person. Although I made a mistake, I think I learned a lot from what I accomplished this evening. All I want to do is play well and compete with my teammates. and give my squad my all.”
Boone explained that he decided to bench Torres so that Oswaldo Cabrera, who would take his place, would have time to warm up.
Boone remarked, “I just felt like I needed to [bench him] in that spot.” I will refrain from delving too much into passing judgment on this one.
