Taylor will have a major role on the Jets in 2024 behind the returning
Although the Jets defeated the Washington Commanders 20–17, the preseason opener served two purposes for Taylor: first, it gave the 35-year-old the opportunity to warm up and get his bearings; preseason is primarily for that reason for seasoned veterans. Taylor avoided injury, completing 1-2 passes for -1 yards; the numbers can be disregarded because the former Super Bowl champion also experienced his first action with the Jets and his new teammates, which he enjoyed following the win.
Before playing center for the first time for New York on August 10, the Virginia native said the following, according to Randy Lange of newyorkjets.com:
Before the game, Taylor stated, “It’s just about the work that you put in in the classroom and applying it on the field.” Ultimately, the key is to compete at a high level by going out there. I enjoy both competing and creating plays. My daily goal is simply on getting the ball out of my hands and into the hands other guys so they can create plays.
