Former Orlando Pirates fitness guru wants Everton in the…..
Franck Plaine, the new performance manager of Everton FC, is focused on returning the club’s Women’s Super League team to glory and leading them to the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
Everton, one of the more seasoned women’s top flight clubs in the UK, has seen only little success since 2010 as funding for other teams has outpaced theirs. After eight games, they are now positioned in the bottom part of the WSL standings.
Plaine, a former fitness director for the Orlando Pirates, is unfazed despite having never worked with a women’s team. Plaine joined the club in November after spells with the men’s national teams of Zambia and Uganda.
However, Plaine claims that he watched the top women’s competitions whenever he could. Under the direction of head coach Jean-Luc Vasseur, he and his aspirational new teammates aspire to lead Everton to the best competition in Europe.
Plaine stated to ESPN: “We need to finish in the top three if we want to play in the Champions League. Because you have big clubs, it is not simple to finish in the top three in England. We want this, but so do Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and [Manchester] United—big clubs.
