ESPN REPORT: Browns trade kicker Cade York to Commanders for…..

ASHBURN, Virginia The kicker Cade York was acquired by the Washington Commanders in an attempt to cover a void left by an unanticipated springtime development.

In exchange for York, the Commanders sent the Cleveland Browns a conditional seventh-round pick in 2025. He is now their third new kicker since they had to let go of seasoned veteran Brandon McManus in May.

York was chosen by Cleveland in the fourth round of the 2022 draft out of LSU, and he promptly made them proud by winning the game with a 58-yard field goal on his debut against Carolina. York, however, faltered after that, missing just 24 of 32 attempts in his rookie campaign. On kicks between 30 and 49 yards, he was 9 for 12.

Then, in the previous preseason, York missed an extra point and several other potentially game-winning kicks, one of which was blocked. The Browns subsequently dismissed York and traded for veteran Dustin Hopkins, a kicker for Washington from 2015 to 21, with the Los Angeles Chargers.

York played a portion of 2023 for the New York Giants and Tennessee Titans practice squads. He sustained a quad injury while playing for the Giants, which ended his season. The previous year, he didn’t try to kick during a game. He was signed by Cleveland in the off-season.

After permitting Joey Slye, who had been in charge for the previous two plus years, to go via free agency, the Commanders signed McManus over the summer. However, they fired McManus following a complaint that claimed he had been sexually assaulted on a team plane while playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Dan Quinn, the coach of Washington, stated that they were unaware of McManus’ predicament before signing him.

In training camp, Washington added seasoned player Riley Patterson after signing Ramiz Ahmed in the offseason. On August 13, the Commanders laid Ahmed off. After exhibiting uneven performance in practice and missed two of four field goals in Saturday’s preseason game against Miami, Patterson was cut on Thursday morning.
