Breaking: Chiefs Are Closing In On Deal To Sign $200.6 Million WR And Return Specialist….
Juju Smith-Schuster, a former Chiefs wide receiver who led the team in receiving yards in 2022 and helped the team win a Super Bowl, is allegedly close to being cut by the Patriots after a dismal 2023 season. Considering the Chiefs’ issues at the position, is a reunion possible?
According to Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, Smith-Schuster was selected as the top cut candidate in 2017 and won’t make the roster. Former Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan made this prediction. Despite having a knee ailment, Smith-Schuster only caught 29 receptions in 11 games last season, despite being a vital component of Kansas City’s attack the year before. Is JuJu still able to drink juice?
In his lone season with the Chiefs, Smith-Schuster caught 78 receptions for 933 yards and three touchdowns, with Patrick Mahomes having a 102.3 passer rating when he targeted him. Smith-Schuster would be a useful addition to the team if he is healthy. Unfortunately, that “if” is somewhat large.
“He’s only a season removed from being a critical piece of a championship-winning offense too, having put up 933 yards (the second-most of his career) and three scores on 78 catches in 2022,” writes Kay. “While it’s unlikely he’ll return to the Pro Bowl form he displayed for the Pittsburgh Steelers in his sophomore season, a healthy Smith-Schuster could still be a major asset for plenty of teams as a high-end No. 3 wideout.”
