ESPN REPORT: Clayton Keller Will Not Even Consider Maple Leafs Agreement
Although the Toronto Maple Leafs are struggling this summer, there are rumors that things could get much worse.
On July 1st, the Toronto Maple Leafs were able to extend Mitch Marner’s contract, but we haven’t heard anything about it yet.
The minority has a megaphone called Social Media and they use it to make truly stupid ideas seem popular, even when 99 percent of Leafs fans are sane.
Most Leafs supporters adore Mitch Marner. It’s understandable that a guy who recovers from a high-ankle sprain in half the time won’t be playing at his best, therefore Marner’s below-average performance against Boston this season should be overlooked. (Remember, the General Manager missed the trade deadline.)
Marner’s low 51% rating this season, following four seasons in a row in which he had an outstanding expected goals rate between 56 and 63%, played a significant role in the Leafs’ inability to score on 20 of their 21 power plays.
Though he hasn’t even reached his age-27 season yet, his total playoff starts have been fantastic—he’s among his generation’s top scorers per game and a goal-suppression monster. The Leafs are unable to trade Marner, but if they do, they must at least make a solid transaction, and the most recent rumor is absurd.
