Hornet Top Star To Miss The Most Highly Anticipated NBA Summer Legue Match….
Although a different second-year Hornet is making an impression at the NBA Summer League, Brandon Miller was named to the All-Rookie team the previous season.
In Charlotte’s 94-90 victory over the New York Knicks on Saturday in Las Vegas, Nick Smith Jr. scored 24 points and displayed an impressive repertoire of moves.
Smith had been one of the top collegiate basketball prospects in 2022 before his one and only season at Arkansas was cut short due to knee issues. He averaged 5.6 points and shot 43.2 percent from three-point range for Charlotte last season, but he appears ready for a more significant role in his sophomore campaign.
He hit 9 for 17 overall and 4 for 9 from long range on Saturday, dishing out five rebounds and four assists.
Miller finished with 23 points and five 3-pointers from beyond the arc, but you would expect a No. 2 overall pick in his second Summer League to be very good. If Charlotte decided to sit Miller for the remaining Vegas games, it wouldn’t be shocking. Miller’s seven turnovers, one of which gave the Knicks a chance to win, took away from his effort.
However, in the closing seconds, Jacob Toppin, the brother of Obi Toppin, missed an alley-oop, and the Hornets won.
Tyler Kolek, whose tenacious and sweaty efforts made him appear like an ideal Tom Thibodeau player, especially when he drew a charge, led New York with seven points and seven assists. The Marquette product, selected in the second round, played 29 minutes without giving the ball up and may get significant playing time as Jalen Brunson’s backup the next season.
