Report Knicks Closing A Secret Deal To Sign 76ers Five Times NBA Champion
an NBA All-Star six times Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Kyle Lowry has played basketball for the Cardinals in high school, Villanova in college, and the 76ers in the NBA all in the City of Brotherly Love. After joining the 76ers in February of the previous season, Lowry, 38, re-upped on a one-year contract to play for the Sixers through the 2024–25 season. His jersey is retired at Villanova. From any mathematical perspective, Kyle Lowry is the city of Philadelphia. However, you could argue that the 76ers are up against some unexpected competition for the Philly fan base considering what is happening in New York City, less than a hundred miles northeast of Philadelphia.
The New York Knicks have gradually changed over the past two years to become the “Villanova Knicks,” a whimsical moniker that has stuck and become even more appropriate this summer. Jalen Brunson was signed by the Knicks two summers ago, and earlier this week, the organization inked Brunson to a cooperative contract deal. Josh Hart was acquired by the Portland Trail Blazers in a trade in February 2023. Less than a month ago, New York traded many first-round draft selections to acquire Mikal Bridges, after signing Donte DiVincenzo in the summer of 2023.
Nobody would have been shocked if Lowry had chosen to sign with the Knicks this summer rather than the 76ers to back up Jalen Brunson at point guard given New York’s recent roster-building habits. Lowry made it apparent that he wasn’t contacted for this Villanova reunion when he was introduced on Sunday afternoon at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament.
