Texas A&M graduate Montgomery was chosen by Boston with the No. 12 pick in the 2024 MLB Draft on Sunday night. MLB prospect analyst Keith Law claims that the 21-year-old has already been dubbed “the steal of the draft.” Devin Pearson, the Red Sox’s head of amateur scouting, told reporters the organization
was “enthralled” with Montgomery during their time together at Madison Central High School (Miss.
According to Ian Browne of MLB.com, Pearson told reporters, “We were enamored by him then, and then got to follow his career to Stanford and (then) Texas A&M.”
Experts covering the draft claimed during Sunday’s ESPN show that Montgomery was not chosen out of high school because teams were aware of his steadfast commitment to Stanford.
Pearson stated, “We think he has even more development left. He had a huge year in the SEC.” “His skill set is a perfect fit for what we are attempting to accomplish here.”
