Peace Be With You: Always In Our Hearts” A Detroit Lions wide receiver discovered his wife’s death in a plane crash.
This offseason, the Detroit Lions signed veteran defensive end Marcus Davenport to bolster their pass-rushing corps. However, an analyst cautions that this move could backfire.
This summer, the 27-year-old defensive end was signed by the Lions to a one-year, $6.5-million contract in an effort to provide a reliable pass-rushing option to Aidan Hutchinson. Concerns have been raised regarding Davenport’s role; David Kenyon of Bleacher Report believes he may prove to be the team’s “biggest bust” by 2024. Nevertheless, Kenyon thinks the Lions’ hiring of Davenport might be a low-risk choice.
“Taking a chance on Marcus Davenport was a wise move, especially in light of the team’s overall strength—still a wild thing to say about Dercustroit,” Kenyon said. “Great if he works out! It was a one-year deal if not. Regretfully, there is a good chance of the latter. Throughout his six NFL seasons, Davenport has frequently battled ailments and inconsistent performance.
Despite being a former first-round selection of the New Orleans Saints in 2018, Davenport has yet to record more than ten sacks in any of his six NFL seasons. Davenport did have a successful season with the Saints in 2021, recording 9.0 sacks and 39 total tackles, but Colton Pouncy of The Athletic questioned whether he could duplicate that performance in Detroit.
