So Sad: Josh Oduro Announce His Departure After Insulting The Coach In….
Jaylen Harrell will not be committing to the men’s basketball team at Providence College next week.
Moreover, the Friars are no longer assured to be on his list of finalists after Thursday.Harrell declared on social media that he was delaying his decision-making process and reopening applications. In late February, he revealed a first list of six players, which included Providence. He is a 2025 shooting guard and the Gatorade Player of the Year in Massachusetts.
Harrell wrote, “My college decision has been much harder than anticipated.” I will be deferring my commitment until a later time as a result of this. I want to make sure that the option I make is the best one for my family and myself.
Earlier in the week, Harrell had paid Xavier an official visit. He has also visited Rutgers and the Friars on official business. His initial top six was the Musketeers, Providence, the Scarlet Knights, Alabama, Kansas, and Virginia Tech, but that might alter at any time.
Harrell attended Providence’s two March games at Amica Mutual Pavilion, where the team lost to Villanova and Connecticut. It was during his official college visit that he made his second trip, for the 74-60 defeat versus the Huskies. Harrell came fresh off a successful spring season with the Boston-area prep powerhouse CATS Academy.
Harrell’s performance has extended into the current grassroots season with Nike circuit entry Expressions Elite. During the Memphis session, he scored 17.6 points per game and improved even more in Atlanta, scoring 19 points per game. ESPN dubbed Harrell a standout during the third Nike session in Indianapolis, and his stock could skyrocket all the way to the trademark Peach Jam this July.
In light of this development, Harrell will undoubtedly attract a slew of new suitors. He stands 6 feet 5 and has previously turned down offers from Wake Forest, Washington, Georgetown, and St. John’s. If Providence continues to pursue Harrell, it may have to compete with a different cast of bluebloods.
The Friars presently have two commitments for their 2025 class. Athletic big man Oswin Erhunmwunse pledged last year and still has the opportunity to join the school ahead of the 2024-25 season. He would almost definitely start in the frontcourt alongside Saint Joseph’s transfer Christ Essandoko and junior college big man Anton Bonke, who enrolled before the second semester and practiced with Providence for the rest of the year.
The Friars made another big splash by signing Florida wing Jamier Jones, who is rated among the top 35 prospects. He chose Providence over Ohio State, Houston, Louisiana State, South Carolina, and Kansas earlier this month. Jones, along with Erhunmwunse and 2023 guard Garwey Dual, is Kim English’s third consensus top-50 talent since taking over on the sideline in late March 2023.
Nigel James, Mikel Brown Jr., and Lino Mark were among the guards the Friars had on their bench during a 21-14 season that included a trip to the NIT in English’s debut. Providence also welcomed frontcourt prospects Tee Bartlett, Bryson Tiller, and Efeosa Oliogu to games in 2023-24. The Friars will need quick backcourt and wing help after losing Wesley Cardet Jr., Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Bensley Joseph, and Bryce Hopkins next year.
