Tragic: Lakers legend and star dies in auto accident…

Following the news of his death at the age of 86 on Wednesday, the NBA community paid tribute to the late great Jerry West of the Los Angeles Lakers.

In addition to being an NBA champion as a player and executive, West was the model for the NBA logo’s silhouette and was inducted into the Hall of Fame three times.

In his statement following West’s passing, NBA icon Michael Jordan referred to West as “a friend and a mentor”.

“I always wished I could have played against him as a competitor, but the more I came to know him, I wish I had been his teammate,” Jordan said.
