I Am Leaving: Rams Head Coach Sean McVay Accept A Deal Of $186 Million To Leave…See Details…
Defenses have worked diligently to slow down Sean McVay’s offense ever since he joined the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL. The Rams’ wide zone run game and play action off of it allowed them to dominate the NFL in 2017 and the majority of 2018. McVay was compelled to veer away from it by using strange fronts and 6-1 looks. In 2021, the Rams offense evolved to include more empty looks. However, the Rams had to go past that as well since defenses were limiting big plays.
Sean McVay’s third incarnation of the Rams plan last season served as a reminder of his exceptional offensive mind. The Rams immediately saw improvements after overhauling their run strategy to include more gap scheme runs. The McVay offense featured a top rushing game for the first time since those seasons in 2017 and 2018.
Because the NFL is cyclical, defenses will keep adjusting to slow down the best attacks. That usually refers to an offensive under Sean McVay’s or another coach’s direction within that schematic tree. It won’t be any different this year. Ted Nguyen of The Athletic recently discussed the priorities for defenses in 2024 and how they appear to be slowing down.
