On Thursday, right-handers Shawn Armstrong and Erick Fedde were added to the St. Louis Cardinals’ active roster as new players.
Ryan Loutos and Michael McGreevy, two rookie right-handers, were optioned by the team to Triple-A Memphis.
In a three-team trade on Monday, Fedde, 31, was obtained from the Chicago White Sox, while Armstrong, 33, was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday in exchange for outfielder Dylan Carlson.
Armstrong had a 5.40 ERA in 38 appearances (seven starts) this season, going 2-2. Armstrong is 10-7 with a 4.18 ERA in 280 appearances over ten seasons with five different organizations (16 starts).
After pitching in South Korea the previous season, Fedde was 7-4 with a 3.11 ERA in 21 starts with the White Sox. In 123 appearances (109 starts) across seven major league seasons with the White Sox and Washington Nationals (2017–22), he is 28–37 with a 4.92 ERA.
Fedde is anticipated to start for the Cardinals on the road against the Chicago Cubs on Friday.
On Wednesday, McGreevy, 24, made his major league debut against the Texas Rangers, throwing up one run in seven innings while earning the win. Loutos, 25, has made three career relief appearances without giving up a run.
