Done Deal: Grant Williams Agree A Deal With Charlotte Hornets For 57 Million R….
Williams reportedly stated that he was on his way to Milwaukee rather than Charlotte for his homecoming.
Grant Williams was moved by the Dallas Mavericks to the Charlotte Hornets at the February deadline, but he was said to be on his way to the Milwaukee Bucks.
Williams discussed his fit with the Hornets, among other issues, during an alternate TNT live broadcast in the players lounge during Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals between the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Dallas Mavericks.
According to Williams, he was on the verge of getting moved to Milwaukee rather than returning to Charlotte for a homecoming.
“We figured out wha team would look the best, and Charlotte was the best opportunity,” Williams stated. “I think the only other team that probably would’ve been an option was Milwaukee, but the deal fell through.”
The trade Williams mentioned between Dallas and Milwaukee was a swap with Bobby Portis. Instead of receiving P.J. Washington, who has since been an important part of Dallas’ postseason rotation, they were given Portis as an option.
Portis, who could be available on the trade market this summer as the Bucks consider potential changes, told Shams Charania last month that a deal based on him for Williams did not feel right.

In th e end, the Hornets’ rebuilding efforts were successful. Sending Washington to Dallas helped them securea top-two protected first-round pick from Dallas in 2027, alongside Williams.
Williams will help the Hornets climb the Eastern Conference standings in 2024-25. “We’re not gonna be a laughingstock anymore,” Williams said of the Hornets. “We are going to be a squad that competes and plays hard. We are going to be a team that remains together. That’s something we were proud of at the conclusion of the season, and we’ll begin the rest of the season with LaMelo (Ball), Mark Williams, and all of our other players returning. I think it’ll be extremely entertaining to play.
