Due to a damaged left foot, New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe had to leave Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.

In the second inning, Volpe fouled a ball off his foot and was out due to foul balls. After five more rain-soaked innings of play, he was replaced in the eighth inning by Oswaldo Cabrera as the Angels had taken a 9-1 lead. The Angels prevailed 9–4.

Dr. Christopher Ahmad, the team physician, examined Volpe, according to the Yankees, and X-rays revealed no fractures.

After the game, manager Aaron Boone stated, “I think he’s going to be fine.”

Volpe is batting in his second season after hitting.209 in his first campaign.257 with 45 RBIs and 11 home homers.

Volpe was hitting.245 before the All-Star break, but in the 18 games that have passed since the break, he is hitting.320 (24 for 75).
