On Saturday night, the Kansas City Royals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 thanks to three runs scored by Bobby Witt Jr. and six strikeouts in seven innings from Michael Wacha.

In the Royals’ four-run seventh inning, Salvador Perez added a two-run home run to right field, Witt added an RBI triple, and Maikel Garcia hit an RBI single. On the thirteenth anniversary of his Major League debut, Perez, the 2015 World Series MVP, went 1 for 3 with the home run.

“Tonight’s situational hitting was really good,” stated Matt Quatraro, manager of Kansas City. In order to advance runners and apply pressure by stealing a few bases, we had a lot of hits. We exerted every ounce of effort to stay in that match.

For the first time since 2016, Kansas City’s season series was guaranteed with this victory. In their two-game series, the teams were tied.

Wacha (9-6) gave up two walks and two runs on five hits. This season, in eight of his ten starts at Kauffman Stadium, he has allowed two runs or fewer. It was Lucas Erceg’s fourth save.

“Today, I felt like I had a lot of command over my mix and a lot of pitches working, and the defense behind me played excellent,” Wacha remarked.
