Report-Veteran player shares how Mets’ clubhouse is….
Francisco Lindor, the shortstop for the New York Mets, talked earlier this week about how crucial it was to “protect the vibes” inside the clubhouse following the team’s disastrous 4-6 road trip, which culminated in a three-game series sweep at the hands of the Seattle Mariners.
After that, the Mets were publicly ridiculed at their own stadium. Later on Thursday afternoon, they wasted a 5-0 lead and lost two of three games to the Oakland Athletics, who were in last place (52–70).
Although J.D. Martinez, the designated hitter, acknowledged that he sounded a little down after Thursday’s 7-6 loss to Oakland, the veteran told teammates they needed to get back up soon in order to face the 45-76 Miami Marlins on Friday in the series opener.
That’s all well and good, but it’s understandable that supporters would worry that the “vibes” that propelled the Mets into the National League wild-card playoff positions are no longer present. According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the Amazins had a 13-13 record in their first 26 games following the All-Star break. Although New York’s starting Friday game deficit over the rival Atlanta Braves for the National League’s last wild-card slot is encouraging, it also serves as a reminder of the kind of opportunity the Mets lost throughout the first part of August.
“We managed to get here by playing without any pressure,” Martinez continued. “Our goal was to lose. So let’s go enjoy ourselves. Suddenly, we become a couple.
