Wide receiver Antoine Green is getting ready for his sophomore season, and the Detroit Lions are excited to have him back after he struggled with injuries during his rookie campaign. Seventh-round pick Green showed improvement under offensive coordinator Ben Johnson of the Lions, but he was limited in his on-field experience during the season’s most crucial periods.
The team has great expectations for Green because of his natural speed and knowledge with the offensive playbook, which make him a possible vital contributor.
“We observed quick discharges. As an astute football player, he was aware of the offensive. Head Coach Dan Campbell noted, “Really having high hopes came in early this camp.”
Nevertheless, an injury sustained during the Organized Team Activities (OTAs) temporarily halted his progress, delaying the full evaluation of his growth until he resumes his usual training regimen.
“Those targets were moving elsewhere, but he played a little amount at the end of the year. However, we observed notable progress,” Campbell said.
This year is a critical time for Green to establish himself as the number three receiver behind Jameson Williams and Amon-Ra St. Brown, two established players.
Green’s trajectory looks bright, as the coaching staff is ready to incorporate him more actively into the lineup. He is expected to compete for more meaningful playing time.
We didn’t get to see him all that much last week because of a minor injury. It’s difficult to say since he’ll be back up doing some individual work and other things. Because we were unable to bring him out there last week, that progress has been put on hold. However, there’s plenty and we like the guy, so let’s wait and see what transpires at camp. Campbell continued, “Let him go compete; he’s just another guy.”
Given Detroit’s crowded and competitive receiving corps, Green’s ability to translate his potential into reliable, meaningful on-field performances will undoubtedly be put to the test during the next NFL season.
