Shepard created quite a stir in the first three years of his Big Blue career, but injuries have really taken a toll on him recently. Shepard played in seven games before rupturing his Achilles in 2021. Then, in a primetime match versus Dallas in 2022, he suffered an ACL tear after tripping over the ground at MetLife Stadium.
Although it was expected that Shepard would leave the Giants during the previous offseason, general manager Joe Schoen ended up signing him to a one-year contract. Shepard had 15 appearances in ’23, including two starts.
His stats weren’t too impressive; he had 10 receptions for 57 yards and one touchdown. Shepard had a rough season, but in his final game in East Rutherford, a Week 18 victory over the Eagles, he received an abundance of affection. Shepard rose to No. 5 on NY’s all-time receiving list after the contest.
Shepard will always be held in high regard by the people of New York and New Jersey because he really gave his all while playing for the team.
