CARY, North Carolina – The Golden Spikes Award semifinalist is none other than Arkansas’s Hagen Smith.

The Golden Spikes Award is given to the best amateur baseball player in the United States based on their athletic prowess, sportsmanship, morality, and overall commitment to the game. It is regarded as the most prestigious national player of the year award in collegiate baseball. Smith is one of the Golden Spikes Award’s 25 semifinalists for this year. Throughout his 14 starts this season, Smith, the 2024 SEC Pitcher of the Year, has established himself as the top pitcher in college baseball, with a 9-0 record, 1.52 ERA, and 150 strikeouts in 77.0 innings. With a 1.35 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 60.0 innings, the junior left-hander is 7-0.

As the most prestigious national player of the year award in collegiate baseball, the Golden Spikes Award honors the best amateur baseball player in the United States according to their skill level, character, sportsmanship, and overall commitment to the game. Smith is one of the 25 finalists for the Golden Spikes Award in 2019. With a 9-0 record, 1.52 ERA, and 150 strikeouts in 77.0 innings over 14 starts this season, Smith—the 2024 SEC Pitcher of the Year—has established himself as the finest pitcher in all of college baseball. With 110 strikeouts in 60.0 innings pitched, the junior left-hander is 7-0 with a 1.35 ERA.

The native of Bullard, Texas, presently leads the nation in strikeouts per nine innings (17.5), hits allowed per nine innings (4.1), and ERA (1.52). A semifinalist for both the College Baseball Foundation National Pitcher of the Year Award and the Dick Howser Trophy, Smith is rated second in the country in strikeouts (150), fourth in WHIP (0.83), and twelfth in wins (9).

In his final regular-season start, Smith recorded his third strikeout of the season (349), surpassing Nick Schmidt’s (345) record to become the program’s all-time strikeout leader for Arkansas.
