Charlotte Hornets Propose $100 Million in Bank of America Stadium Renovations
Charlotte is still making efforts to become more of a sports town.
The city is now exploring a $800 million investment to expand Bank of America Stadium, the present home of the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC, months after announcing the construction of a new practice facility and arena enhancements for the Charlotte Hornets. The Panthers and Charlotte FC would both remain in the city for the next 20 years thanks to the upgrades. The $650 million city investment would be financed by current taxes that must be used for the city’s tourism sector; there would be no additional taxes imposed. The team’s ownership group, Tepper Sports and Entertainment, would foot the bill for the building phase with $150 million.
The Panthers team president, Kristi Coleman, stated in a release that “Bank of America Stadium has been a special place for our Panthers, and now Charlotte FC, fans for nearly 30 years.” “Bank of America Stadium has a strong infrastructure, but in order to make sure that our long-standing venue continues to provide the best experience for our players, fans, and community, investments are needed.”

New seats, better accessibility, new restrooms, and external improvements are just a few of the proposed stadium improvements. The Panthers owner David Tepper had said in 2019 that the city should host Final Fours and Super Bowls, but neither a dome nor a retractable roof are part of the upgrades. Tepper seems to be staying true to the idea that he abandoned in ’21. he
