Luka Doncic berates officials following the Game 3 defeat.

Luka Doncic seems to think that the officiating crew in Game 3 was partially to blame for the Dallas Mavericks’ impending sweep in the NBA Finals.

The Mavericks lost 106-99 on Wednesday night at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. As a result, they are now behind the Boston Celtics 3-0. With just over four minutes left in the fourth quarter, Doncic fouled out, ending his chance to play in the game. At his press conference after the game, he voiced his displeasure with the officiating.

When Doncic was penalized for his sixth foul, he raised his hands to show that he was in the guarding stance.

“Six fouls in the NBA Finals—I don’t want to say nothing at all?” Doncic enquired. “This is how I am? Man, get over it. (Be) superior to that. Doncic: Six fouls in the NBA Finals? I don’t want to say nothing at all. He then extended his hands, palms facing upwards. “How would I describe myself? Man, get over it. (Be) superior to that.

Doncic moved in front of Boston Celtics forward Jaylen Brown during a transition while carrying five fouls. He was given a blocking foul call. Dallas contested, but the officials maintained the foul call because they believed Doncic had not taken a legitimate defending position. Here is a link to view the video.

The foul was costly because the Mavericks were only behind 93-90 at the time and were trying to rally.

In the NBA Finals, Doncic’s defensive play has been lacking. He has generally appeared to be a step slow, which may be because of the numerous injuries he is dealing with. A few missed calls has not determined the outcome of the series for Dallas, which has scored fewer than 100 points in each of the three NBA Finals games. Throughout Game 3, the Celtics led by 21 at one point and have been in complete control. Doncic is most likely more irritated than anyone about that.
