Report Razorbacks Baseball Closing Secret Deal To Sign Georgia Bulldogs MVP In A Blockbuster Trade
Every year, the top amateur baseball player in the US is given the Golden Spikes Award. First given out in 1978, the Major League Baseball Players Association and USA Baseball developed the award. The player who combines “exceptional on-field ability and exemplary sportsmanship” to the best of their amateur abilities wins it. According to Wikipedia, the prize is regarded as the most coveted in amateur baseball. This is the college baseball equivalent of the Heisman Trophy, which Arkansas pitcher Hagen Smith is vying for with two other contenders.
Smith will compete against Charlie Condon, a standout player for the Georgia Bulldogs, and Travis Bazzana, an Oregon State great who is also eligible for the draft.
When you think of this esteemed trophy, many things come to mind, such as Dylan Crews, who won it the previous season following an incredible run as an LSU Tiger.
The Razorbacks’ accomplishment with the trophy is another item that comes to mind.
Regarding the achievements of former Razorbacks, the Arkansas Razorbacks athletics website (Arkansas razorbacks.com) stated the following.
“Smith would become the third Razorback to win the award, following outfielder Andrew Benintendi (2015) and pitcher Kevin Kopps (2021).” Smith is the fourth Golden Spikes Award finalist in program history.
Come Saturday, Condon—who broke the single-season home run record this season with 37 home runs—will probably be the favorite over him. Smith, on the other hand, has an ERA of 2.04 and 161 strikeouts this season, so he may be beaten.
