Boston — The Red Sox kicked off a three-game series against the Padres and former teammate Xander Bogaerts in May after taking advantage of a day off in San Diego.
Rafael Devers accepted Bogaerts’ invitation to supper, but Bogaerts forgot his wallet, thus Devers had to cover the cost. Bogaerts and the Padres got a day off in Boston this year. Before their three-game series at Fenway Park, which starts on Friday, they spent Thursday here. Bogaerts and Devers hung out once more.
Bogaerts remarked, “We had like a cookout at his place.” “We hosted relatives and friends and did other things like that… He made the payment. He covered the cost of the meat.
For the first time since agreeing to an 11-year, $280 million contract with San Diego in December 2022, Bogaerts is back at Fenway Park. However, due to a shoulder fracture, he is listed as injured and will not be able to play.
That is unfortunate since, prior to the injury, you had put the date on your calendar and were looking forward to it, according to Bogaerts. “I thought maybe I could make it. Though I’m here at least, it does stink. I’m still able to view MLB games. It will not be the same. I’m excited about the atmosphere and the prospect of watching both our guys and their guys compete.
During Friday’s game, the Red Sox are anticipated to show a memorial film on the Jumbotron.
Because I spent so much time here, I have a lot of memories. Many excellent ones. Bad ones, tough ones, too. However, Bogaerts stated, “I think there were a lot more good things than bad.” Maybe it’s not so bad to be allowed to sit on the bench. I could certainly take more time to think back on the things I accomplished while here and the individuals that made it possible for me to succeed.
Devers is “the same guy” off the field as he was while they were teammates, according to Bogaerts. He is also pleased with his former teammate’s performance on the field.
