Report 76ers Closing Deal To Sign Celtics MVP In A Blockbuster Trade
After their longtime rivals made a significant splash on Monday morning, the Celtics’ path back to the NBA Finals just became a bit more difficult. Last year, the 76ers’ strategy of holding onto long-term cap space paid off when Paul George instantly agreed to a $212 million, four-year max agreement. George becomes the most well-known player to change teams via a free agency contract since 2019, paving the way for Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid to lead a redesigned Sixers team.
After holding salary space for George, general manager Daryl Morey will need to assemble nearly the whole bench around Embiid, George, and Maxey, but Philadelphia took a step in that direction on Sunday night. Eric Gordon re-signed with Morey for a deal on the veteran’s minimum, Kelly Oubre re-signed for a two-year contract worth $16 million, and Andre Drummond made his second trip back to Philadelphia in three years. A closer look at what Morey has so far put together is provided here:
Although that may not seem like a lot of money, the 76ers will be able to provide any reserves who show interest plenty of minutes. The 76ers should be able to sign at least one or two valuable bench players over the veteran’s minimum in addition to any experienced minimum agreements they can pull off because excellent teams don’t have a lot of financial room remaining.
